A Create-a-Player feature allows the user to add in players that were not included in the roster. Įven though there are no NFL teams in the game, the player can still create teams that resemble their NFL counterparts. Since the exclusivity deal the NFL has with EA only covers team licenses, 2K contracted the individual rights to over 240 retired NFL players to appear in the game. Before the next-gen systems came out, EA showed clips of a next-gen Madden graphics engine. In terms of detail, I am still left wanting more. The animation is very smooth, and EA has included more animations from real-life situations. But EA still needs to work on animations when players change directions: most human beings can't turn on a dime, but somehow in the world of Madden this is commonplace. For some odd reason many of my contemporaries believed that it would be sold out, but when I walked in, the friendly lady working the counter at my local video game store said they had many copies for all the platforms. Yesterday, I picked up a copy of EA's Madden 2008, even though I promised myself I wouldn't. Luckily, our own Kurt Hutchinson took the plunge and picked up this year's roster update/Madden title, and while I was skeptical at first, his writeup gives me some hope for the game. ![]() Do you remember that scene in the Office, where Michael looks at Toby and says, "I hate so much of what you choose to be?" That's how I feel about Madden.
